Tour Description

This private tour offers a wonderful introduction to one of Vienna’s most charming and distinctive areas. Your private guide will pick you up at your hotel in a luxury Mercedes limousine, Mercedes van, or Tesla, so the experience begins smoothly and comfortably from the very first moment. Your vehicle offers generous space and excellent visibility, making the drive itself part of the pleasure.

The tour begins with a drive to Grinzing, one of Vienna’s most picturesque districts and a place many locals still describe as a village. With its traditional houses, inviting wine taverns, and relaxed atmosphere, Grinzing offers a very different feeling from the imperial center of Vienna. As you explore the area on foot with your guide, you will notice the attention to detail in the architecture and gain a better sense of the everyday character that makes this part of the city so beloved.

Grinzing is especially famous for its traditional wine taverns, known as Heuriger. The word refers both to the young wine of the current year and to the seasonal taverns where local vintners serve their own wine, a tradition that has continued for more than 220 years. These taverns are found on the edge of Vienna among vineyards and wooded hills, creating a setting that feels relaxed, authentic, and deeply connected to Austrian wine culture.

If you wish, you may enjoy lunch in one of the many wine taverns in Grinzing. Your guide will be happy to explain the local dishes and recommend which young Austrian wines to try. More than just a meal, this is a chance to experience a way of life that Viennese and Austrians value deeply — convivial, unhurried, and rooted in tradition.

After time in Grinzing, the tour continues into the Vienna Woods, a landscape recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve for its special cultural and natural significance. Here you will visit the hills of Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg, both popular local escapes that offer sweeping views over the Danube and the Vienna skyline. Because the paths are paved, the experience is easy to enjoy without the need for hiking equipment.

Your guide will also show you the Stefaniewarte, a 22-meter viewing tower built in 1887 and named after Crown Princess Stefanie of Belgium. From here, you can enjoy wonderful views over the Vienna Basin, the hills of the Vienna Woods, and the Danube Valley. Just below the summit stands the Baroque St. Joseph’s Church, known for its black Madonna and its importance as a pilgrimage site.

At the end of the tour, you will be driven comfortably back to your hotel. Because this is a private experience, the pace remains flexible, personal, and easy to enjoy throughout. It is a wonderful choice for travelers who want to see a gentler, more local, and more scenic side of Vienna.
