The Experience

For centuries, Vienna and Budapest were two crowns of the same empire — and the journey between them is still one of the most rewarding day trips in Europe. For one full day, your private driver-guide takes you east through Burgenland and across the Hungarian lowlands, with the story of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy unfolding along the way. Two and a half hours later, the Danube widens, the spires appear, and Budapest reveals itself in all its imperial drama.

You begin high above the city on Gellért Hill, where the Danube curves below you and Buda and Pest spread out in postcard form. From there, you climb into Buda's medieval castle district — Trinity Square, the gothic Matthias Church, the white-stone arcades of Fisherman's Bastion, and the imposing silhouette of Buda Castle. Then comes the moment every visitor remembers: crossing the legendary Chain Bridge, Budapest's emblem, into Pest. Inside the sumptuous St. Stephen's Basilica, your guide shows you the Holy Right — the preserved hand of Hungary's founding king — before leading you past the neo-gothic Parliament, the vast Heroes' Square, the elegant Andrássy Avenue and its opera house, and the lively shopping streets of Váci.

Lunch is unhurried — and if you'd like, we'll reserve a table at one of Budapest's finest Hungarian restaurants in advance. Your afternoon is yours: wander Pest's elegant boulevards, browse the boutiques, or bring a bathing suit and slip into the warm thermal pools of the Art Nouveau Gellért Bath, one of Europe's most beautiful spas. In the late afternoon, your driver is waiting for the quiet return to Vienna. Or, if you'd prefer to stay the night, this same tour can be booked as a one-way private transfer from your Vienna hotel directly to your Budapest hotel — hassle-free. Most visitors leave Central Europe with photographs. You'll leave with two capitals. Reserve your private experience — we'll take care of the rest.

Please note: entrance tickets, meals, and Gellért Bath admission are not included. We're happy to arrange restaurant reservations and bath tickets in advance.
